AVON & SOMERSET Police Community Male Voice Choir

Music Director needed!

The Avon and Somerset Police Community Male Voice Choir are seeking a replacement for their Musical Director, who will be retiring after many years of accomplished service. Our choir has been established for over fifty years and is approximately forty-five strong and growing. The members comprise a blend of retired Police personnel and members of the public. We sing four-part harmony and our repertoire includes traditional folk songs, pop classics, spirituals, sacred music and songs from musical theatre.

We perform concerts throughout Somerset, South Gloucester, Bristol and Bath, approximately once a month, raising money for various charities. Our rehearsals take place on Monday evenings at the Police Headquarters in Portishead.

The post requires a person with a first-class knowledge of music and ideally some previous experience of leading a choir. Familiarity with the kind of music we sing would also be an asset, as would a willingness to introduce and teach new music to the choir, the majority of whose members do not read music. That person should have good keyboard skills, show leadership and the ability to communicate, have a stage presence and an outgoing personality. The aim will always be to rehearse and perform to a high standard for every concert. The holder of the post is self-employed and details will be revealed to applicants on enquiry.

Applicants will be invited to attend a rehearsal and lead the choir in a number of our pieces so that a mutual assessment may be made.

Location: Birmingham, West Midlands
Rehearsal Schedule: Tuesday evenings (7:15 PM – 9:30 PM), in St Lazar’s Hall, Bournville [B30 1QG], with termly breaks, plus some all-day rehearsals.
Concerts: Minimum 3 major performances per year. Remuneration: Competitive fee per rehearsal and concert (commensurate with experience).

About Us
We are a friendly, enthusiastic, and ambitious choir of around 70 members based in Birmingham.
We were formed in 1981. Our repertoire is delightfully eclectic, spanning everything from classical
sacred pieces, opera choruses, and musical theatre to jazz arrangements and pop classics. We take
our music-making seriously while keeping rehearsals warm, engaging, and enjoyable.
We give at least 3 major performances each year, the concerts being held mostly in churches in the
Birmingham area. We support a very deserving and appreciative charity, Music Therapy Works.
As we aim to make every rehearsal both a challenging and enjoyable experience for everyone,
whatever their musical background, it is essential that the accompanist is an accomplished player who
can work alongside the Musical Director to ensure that rehearsals run smoothly.

The Role
We are seeking an accomplished and adaptable Piano Accompanist to join us for our weekly
rehearsals and concert schedule. Working closely with our Musical Director, you will play an integral
role in supporting rehearsal flow, supporting vocal sections, and accompanying performance.

Key Responsibilities:
● Accompanying weekly Tuesday evening rehearsals, plus some all-day rehearsals prior to concerts.
● Playing for at least three main concerts each year.
● Supporting sectional rehearsals by playing individual vocal parts when required.
● Collaborating with the Musical Director to help singers achieve their best musical standard.

About You:
You will require
● Exceptional Sight-Reading & Technique: Fluent keyboard technique with strong
sight-reading skills across varied genres.
● Versatility: Comfortable moving between classical notation, light pop/jazz accompaniments,
and musical theatre arrangements.
● Choral Awareness: Experience accompanying choirs or vocal groups, with an intuitive
understanding of a conductor’s tempo and cues.
● Reliability & Engagement: Punctual, reliable, and supportive of a positive ensemble environment.

CONCORDIA

A new accompanist for Concordia Choir

Concordia Choir, Ashby de la Zouch

seek to appoint a new accompanist from January 2027

The successful applicant will ideally be an experienced choral accompanist, confident across a variety of genres, capable of both sight reading and playing from open score. Experience as an Organist would also be welcome as would the ability to, on rare occasions, deputise in a rehearsal for the Musical Director or to lead a sectional rehearsal.

Concordia is a welcoming, non-auditioned, 35-40 member SATB choir, founded in 2009. Tom Stanyard BA(Hons) LRSM has been Musical Director since 2021. During that time the choir has performed a wide variety of repertoire, ranging from Palestrina, Missa Brevis and Ola Gjeilo, Sunrise Mass to thematic programmes of shorter pieces from Byrd to Britten, Lassus to Lauridsen and Weelkes to Whitacre.

The choir typically give four concerts a year, occasionally with additional instrumentalists. The Christmas concert is shared with the Derby Central Salvation Army Brass Band.

Future plans include a tour to Gloucestershire and entry into the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts, an Opera Gala concert and Beethoven Mass in C.

The choir rehearses at Ashby-de-la-Zouch Methodist Church Hall on Monday evenings, 19:30 - 21:30. The rehearsal stipend begins at £75 with consideration for relevant qualifications and experience. The successful applicant will be engaged as a self-employed contractor.

CHESTER Ladies Choir

Musical Director needed for Chester Ladies Choir

Chester Ladies Choir is looking for a new Musical Director to start from May 2027.

The Choir was established in 1955 and is open to all ladies from Chester and the surrounding area, some of whom come from as far as North Wales and the Wirral.

We are an inclusive choir so do not audition new members, but we do maintain a high standard of singing with most concerts performed “off copy”. We usually perform two concerts a year at Christmas and in the Spring/Summer as well as taking part in other events throughout the year.

We currently have around 40 members of various ages who really enjoy their singing.

We rehearse from 7.30 to 9.30 on Tuesday evenings at the United Reform Church in Hoole from September to July.

We perform a wide variety of music including songs from shows, popular songs, folk music and some more serious items.

The Musical Director is responsible for directing the choir and developing and maintaining the music programme (in consultation with the committee).

The successful candidate should be self-directed and efficient with good communication and leadership skills. He/she should have an interest and knowledge of a wide range of music.
