NAC Music Officer agrees reduced fee with PRS - Wed 8 Jun 2011

Our Music Officer, Eric Cooper, has recently been in negotiation with the Licensing Department of PRS for Music.

The point at issue was the charge to a choir for a licence for placing a short sound clip of their rehearsal on their website. The charge - then non-negotiable - was 112, covering 3,000+ hours of streaming music. Eric pointed out to PRS for Music that for a small choir with a restricted audience this was an excessive charge for something which would not be needed for anything like that number of hours.

PRS for Music have now offered a 50% discount if the licence is only required for six months. They have also said that a further discount may be available should it be required and requested.

This is an excellent result for the NAC, and may have consequences across the world of choral music. Our thanks go to Eric for his persistence!
